About Us

In the autumn of 1998, we started a short series of jazz concerts in church, with encouragement from our then vicar, David Tuck. Various musicians played for us, amongst them Humphrey Lyttelton and Martin Klute. We did not expect that annual jazz seasons would be going from strength to strength in Pinner Parish Church so many years later! Welcome...

2014/15 Season

There’s no apparent magic in the number seventeen, is there? Yet for those of us who came together earlier this year to plan our seventeenth season of jazz concerts in Pinner Church, it seemed as if this non-mystical numeral had some resonance of its own. It was time to take stock, we thought. We could look back on last year’s array of concerts with real satisfaction. We had presented our usual rich mix of artists and styles with three sure-fire winners in Dame Cleo Laine, Scott Hamilton and the Humphrey Lyttelton Band and we had introduced brilliant, younger players to Pinner. Simon Allen, Nigel Price and Tim Lapthorn, each already established yet still up-and-coming, were on the bill and we had again attracted a distinguished US visitor in baritone-saxophonist Frank Basile.

That said we’ve taken steps to make this new season even more attractive and memorable. We invited saxophonist/bandleader/composer/educator Frank Griffith to join our organising committee and asked him to handle the content and management of two concerts for us. He accepted with alacrity.   We also took note of our audience’s preferences and elected to have a break after Christmas, resuming in March and extending the season into May. And we have further exciting innovations to report. Our opening concert is part of the initial Pinner Arts Week, vocalist Tina May’s November concert will feature the London Jazz Sinfonia Strings as well as a jazz quartet led by Frank and we have attracted two contrasting masters of jazz piano in Gwilym Simcock and Rossano Sportiello for their first-ever Pinner appearances. What’s more, we’re fully active on Facebook and Twitter and our website has been revamped.

We, the volunteers who run this ongoing project do it for love of this music and we believe our new programme is one of our best. It needs only one more thing to make it perfect: your presence. So get booking now. You know it makes sense.
